Packaging quality control is a multifaceted discipline that bridges the gap between food science and mechanical engineering. From barrier performance to chemical migration and physical durability, rigorous testing is the only way to guarantee safety and maximize shelf-life. Continue reading
The pharmaceutical industry strategically transitioning toward sustainable practices, through the integration of Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials and lightweight packaging strategies.
However, in a highly regulated environment, "eco-friendly" cannot come at the expense of "regulatory compliance," these shifts require precise quantification of Oxygen and Water Vapor Transmission Rates (OTR/WVTR), as recycled polymers and thinner walls can significantly alter the barrier and mechanical properties of the packaging material and integrity of the container closure system.

Designing a "greener" pharma pack requires a sophisticated balance between environmental responsibility and the uncompromising requirements of sterile medical packaging. In the pharmaceutical industry, sustainability is achieved not only through end-of-life recyclability but also through material efficiency (source reduction) and waste prevention enabled by rigorous shelf life testing. In the flexible packaging industry, vacuum aluminized films serve as a cost-effective, high-performance alternative to traditional aluminum foil composites. However, the thickness of the aluminized layer is a critical variable that determines the material s ultimate barrier efficiency. This study evaluates the effect of coating thickness on the moisture resistance of Vacuum Metallized Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (VMBOPP) by measuring the Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR). Utilizing the advanced Labthink C303H Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System, researchers analyzed two VMBOPPsamples with different coating densities to provide a technical reference for quality control and material optimization.
