ASTM F2338

ASTM F2338 - Standard Test Method for Nondestructive Detection of Leaks in Packages by Vacuum Decay Method

ASTM F2338 provides a deterministic framework—it relies on quantitative, repeatable physical measurements.
The package is placed in a tightly sealed test chamber. A vacuum is pulled, and the instrument monitors the rise in pressure over a set period. A significant rise in pressure indicates that gas or air is escaping from the package into the chamber.
